Your fuel pump is submerged in gasoline inside the fuel tank. That's not an accident — it's the design. Gasoline acts as a coolant for the electric motor that drives the pump. As long as there's fuel surrounding the pump, it stays within safe operating temperatures. The moment fuel level drops low, the pump starts running exposed to heat, fuel vapor, and air.
